Our story

A Filipino restaurant and garden at the port of Maya, where Northern Cebu meets the sea.

At the port of Maya

Sugbo Maya sits at New Port, Maya, in Daanbantayan, on the northern tip of Cebu. This is where the boats leave for Malapascua Island, so our tables see travellers waiting on the crossing as often as families from just down the road.

The name says where we are: Sugbo is Cebu, and Maya is the port town we call home.

A garden of rattan and bamboo

Open-sided pavilions, woven rattan lamps, bamboo walls and leafy planters keep the alfresco garden shaded through the day.

It is a place to linger over a shared bilao with the barkada, not a place to rush.

After dark

When the sun goes down the lanterns come on and the garden turns softer. On Live Sugba weekends the grill is going and acoustic music carries across the tables.

Café, dining room and function hall

Inside, Sugbo Café pours coffee and sets out pastries, and an indoor dining room is there for when you would rather sit inside. For birthdays and family celebrations there is our function hall, with catering from the same kitchen.

Checked, safe and open again

After the earthquake in Northern Cebu, our building went through a safety check and passed. We have reopened, carrying on with a little hustle, a little play and a touch of chic.

Our building passed its post-earthquake safety check. We are open with adjusted hours, 10 AM – 8 PM.

The people who look after you

Our cooks, servers and baristas are the reason guests keep coming back. They grill, plate, pour and welcome every table as if it were family, from a quiet coffee to a full house in the hall.
